James Farmer: Arriving Home

When I think of graceful southern design that is warm, welcoming, and every bit chic- James Farmer immediately comes to mind. I have had the pleasure to meet James on two separate occasions, and I can tell you he is just as warm, welcoming, and chic as his interiors. His personality is vibrant and colorful, while being authentically true to his southern roots. As you can see below, that is reflected in all of his projects. This is particularly highlighted in his new book, Arriving Home.

I am so excited to give you a peek into one of James’ projects featured in Arriving Home. This home is in the a sweet town outside of Auburn called Oak Bowery, Alabama. Along with James, renowned architect Norman Askins helped revise the classic estate for a young family. Enjoy this southern design feast for your eyes, and be sure to pay attention to the details! There are so many beautiful timeless elements to see throughout.

I love how James is not afraid to use glorious brown wood furniture throughout. It brings the right amount contrast to each room.
Warm and inviting interiors. Perfectly southern, and tremendously timeless.
Beautiful butlers hall into the kitchen.
Punches of color and vibrance.
The soft tangerine of the walls is almost a neutral backdrop to the colorful pieces of porcelain and paneling throughout the room. The antique black furniture adds elevates the sophistication.
Sconces and gallery of botanicals on the white-painted plank walls.
My favorite of the bedrooms. Light and airy, just like a bedroom should be!
Blues and whites. The lamp provides the perfect punch of color.
A sweet sitting area. I love the complimentary soothing patterns and palette.
I adore a fireplace in a bathroom. The paneling in this home is exceptional. Also, notice how he brings the tile up to the base of the window.
