Cozy, yet Cool

*GIFT GUIDE LAUNCHING TOMORROW*

While I escaped to Florida for Thanksgiving, I can’t help but wish I was somewhere curled up with a blanket by a fire. When I came across images of Claudia Schiffer’s English manor, I decided immediately that would be my ideal spot. Rich in fabrics and abundant with patterns, her home is the perfect curation of modern art in a stately English setting. There are current elements of architectural design, without forsaking the classic history of the home. It is truly a cool and cozy house.

Wonderful West Village

I think everyone needs a good dose of New York City every so often. There is something about its vibrancy that is good for the soul. My very quick trip basically revolved around good food, fabulous friends, and amazing art.

If you are heading there soon, I highly recommend visiting The Whitney Museum to see Toyin Ojih Odutola’s amazing exhibit. Beautiful pastels create a poetic story of the juxtaposition of wealth, progression, and culture. It is truly spectacular and I am so proud of my college roommate, Melinda Lang, for curating such phenomenal work.  It is also worth checking out all the amazing talent in Laura Owens‘ new exhibit there. If you want a great treat, go to David Zwirner’s gallery to see Yayoi Kusama’s new exhibit. Beware: the line wait is over 2 hours most days! I was not willing to brave the 30 degree weather for it, but many did!

If you can’t get to NYC soon, I hope you enjoy some wonderful West Village townhouses that I captured this weekend! XO

Poetry of Place

In my mind, McAlpine is a name synonymous with excellent architecture. Bobby McAlpine’s new book, Poetry of Place highlights his exceptional range of architectural talent. His work is undoubtedly timeless. He builds houses that look as if they have been there for years, yet still possess a fresh curb appeal. McAlpine understands that each house tells the story of how it became a home. In this book, McAlpine shares that story from his poignant voice. He takes you through the process of having a vision and brings it to life through beautiful photographs of his masterful work.

This book exemplifies that beauty must first come from the heart before it can be made into a home. That is the most gorgeous poetry of all.

PoetryofPlace_p115Such great attention to detail. McAlpine really understands the importance of windows, shutters, and symmetry.

From Classic to Contemporary

I have always admired the work of Cullman & Kravis, but I must say that their new book From Classic to Contemporary: Decorating with Cullman & Kravis is very inspiring. I have always adored their ability to take beautiful pieces of modern and abstract art and juxtapose them against richly timeless interiors and fabrics. The book highlights their ability to transcend one specific genre of design. They beautifully curate a space that is every bit classical as it is current, mastering that art of timeless spaces without loosing a fresh ambience.

From Classic to Contemporary: Decorating with Cullman & Kravis  is a coffee table must! Each time I pick it up, I find myself more inspired. Here is a preview to inspire you today! Happy Tuesday!

Scrub Down

With the swing of temperatures around Dallas recently, I have not been feeling one hundred percent. One day it is in the fifties and the next day it is in the nineties. It is sure to mess with anyone’s immune system. All that sounds good to me (sick or not sick) is a nice long bath at the end of the day. It is one of life’s most simple luxuries. Hot water, nice bath salts/oils, and uninterrupted time alone. I have recently been thinking about my ideal bathtub, and I have noticed a common theme among images I gravitate towards- simple. While I love layers and texture and patterns in every other area of design, I really believe that a simple, good quality tub can make the best statement of all.

I highlighted a few of my favorite tubs below, and some of my go-to bath products!

Everyone should enjoy a little time for themselves today! After all, the holidays are just around the corner…. Who am I kidding, they are HERE!

No Tricks, Just Treats

Happy Halloween! While I should do a pumpkin inspired post, I can’t help but just want to do a little shopping instead. I have been on an online shopping kick recently, and I would be remiss if I didn’t share some great sales I am spotting on my hunt. Today I wanted to share some finds from one of my favorite stores Serena and Lily. They have so many chic pieces and it is even sweeter to shop there with 15% off using the promo FALLTREAT!

So have a great Halloween and remember to treat yourself (plus these treats are calorie free)!

Calling All Gardeners (And Wannabes)

Last week I went to the launch party of an amazing new website called Gardenuity that literally makes gardening fool proof. As much as I would like to say I am an expert gardener, I definitely could use some help. For example, what will the weather be like later- rain or freeze, hot or humid? How much water, sun or shade does it need? Gardenuity alerts you when your plant needs watering, how much sun it should have, or if it is time to cover it for a freeze. You simply can’t mess up your plants because they simply won’t let you!

Another great perk of the website is the ability to buy herbs and vegetables for yourself or as a gift for friends. They come chicly designed in bamboo planters with compost and a cute orange scoop. Honestly, an amazing gift for the holidays. Even if you live in an urban apartment or any space without green space, you can be a gardener. If that isn’t enough, they even email you recipe ideas for the herbs and vegetables purchased. Instead of buying fresh rosemary at the store, why not just pick some from your own collection?  I am a true fan of this amazing concept.

Being a little green feels good and having a little green tastes even better.

Gardenuity 4 These fresh herbs come perfectly packaged in bamboo containers with fresh compost. I literally used my fresh rosemary from it last night while cooking. Gardenuity 5

Is this not the most ideal gift for the person who has everything, or the person who doesn’t have any space to plant? I adore the packaging.

Gardenuity 3

The bamboo containers go with every style.

Gardenuity 6 Another great concept. Rows of seeds perfectly spaced out for planting. Let’s be honest, it doesn’t get any easier to be a gardener with GardenuityGardenuity 2 Beets, Carrots, Tomatoes? It is that simple. The perfect way to plant. Also, how great are the rolling planters?

Top Tables

While I may be a Kappa Kappa Gamma legacy ( my great-great grandmother was national president), I chose to be a Chi Omega in my sorority college days. That said, I don’t think my family will ever quite let me live it down. While I wouldn’t ever change my choice, I do appreciate how the Kappas put on a top notch fundraiser about tablescapes. This year, I finally decided to take a glimpse at the beautiful tables designed by top Dallas designers, shopkeepers, and tastemakers.

The amount of talent that can be brought to the tabletop is awe-inspiring. It was incredible to see how each place setting was like a personal vignette of linens, place cards, flowers, and accessories. Who needs room for food when there is so much artistic expression to enjoy. I hope you enjoy some of my favorite tables from this year’s KKG Tablescapes event!
